TIME Magazine Names Vocabulary.com One of its 50 Best Websites of 2012
Vocabulary.com One of Just Four Educational Websites on the List
NEW YORK, N.Y. (September 19, 2012) TIME Magazine has named Vocabulary.com one of the 50 Best Websites of 2012. The list, which was released by TIME on Tuesday, September 18, salutes new websites and services that are "useful, entertaining, innovative or just plain addictive." Vocabulary.com is one of just four educational websites to be named on TIME's list.
TIME's write-up of Vocabulary.com focuses primarily on The Challenge an adaptive learning system that provides each user with personalized vocabulary instruction. TIME also notes the site's concept of mastery: once Vocabulary.com has determined a user doesn't know a particular word, the site will continue to teach that word until the user has mastered it. Users who play The Challenge earn points and achievements while improving their vocabulary.
Additionally, TIME provides links to Vocabulary.com's Dictionary, the world's fastest. The Dictionary, which offers over 100 million real-world sentence examples, helps users learn and retain new words with its easy-to-understand and memorable definitions. TIME also calls attention to Vocabulary.com's Learnable Vocabulary List page, noting that the site "lets users create and share vocabulary lists, such as '100 SAT Words Beginning With 'A'.'"
