Today's focus: Kinetic engineering

The Web is awash with creative designs but few stand out like the work of Plumb Design.
I first discovered Plumb's genius when I stumbled across its Visual Thesaurus project while researching a column a year or so ago. This unusual and radical approach to showing the relationships between words greatly impressed me, as did the company's later projects for the Smithsonian and Sony Music's Soundtrack for a Century.
These and other works illustrate relationships by using kinetic representations of information and dynamic displays. These relationships have been turned into development systems... that can be used to create and deliver Web content based on the same paradigms.
